Simone Arianne Biles is an American artistic gymnast. With a total of 30 Olympic and World Championship medals, Biles is the most decorated American gymnast and the world’s third most decorated gymnast, behind Belarus’ Vitaly Scherbo (33 medals) and Russia’s Larisa Latynina (32 medals).

Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio, the third of 4 siblings. Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was unable to worry for Simone or her other children – Adria, Ashley, and Tevin. All four went in and out of foster care.

In 2000, Biles’s maternal grandfather, Ron Biles and his second wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles,began temporarily caring for Shanon’s children in the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas, after learning that his grandchildren had been in foster care. In 2003, the couple officially adopted the 2 youngest, Simone and Adria.

Ron’s sister, Shanon’s aunt Harriet, adopted the two oldest children.Biles holds Belize citizenship through her mother and refers to that country as her second home.Biles and her family practice Catholicism.

In 2012, Biles’s grandparents switched her from public school to homeschooling, allowing her to increase her training from approximately 20 to 32 hours per week. This boosted her gymnastics success during the 2012 season. She gained all of her secondary education as a homeschooler, graduating in the summer of 2015.

Biles verbally committed to UCLA on August 4, 2014. She planned to defer enrollment until after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro; in November 2014 she signed her National Letter of Intent with UCLA.On July 29, 2015 she announced that she would turn professional and forfeit her NCAA eligibility to compete for UCLA.In January 2018, Biles was reported to have enrolled at the University of the People, an online college, to study business administration, and would become the university’s brand ambassador.

Tevin Biles-Thomas, the biological brother of U.S. Olympic gymnastic squad icon and four-time gold medalist Simone Biles, faces four charges from a shooting at a New Year’s Eve party in Cleveland, according to court records.

Biles-Thomas, 24, has been accused of murder, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault and perjury from the incident that left three dead and injured two more.

Biles-Thomas is currently being held in a Georgia jail and is due in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 13. He is listed as active duty in the U.S. Army and attended high school in Cleveland.

Stacey Ervin Jr. (October 21, 1993) is an American professional wrestler and former amateur gymnast previously signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where he appeared on the NXT brand.

Ervin was born in 1993 in Taylor, Michigan as one of four children. He graduated from Taylor Truman High School in 2011 and went on to attend the University of Michigan majoring in Psychology. He began gymnastics at the suggestion of his mother, beginning in 2001 around the age of 8. His team won the 2013 NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships.

On Feb. 3, Biles’s inspiring story from care to Olympic star is coming to Lifetime. The movie is executive produced by Biles and based on her bestselling book,“Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance.”

“I hope it has a great outcome and whoever watches it can relate to some parts of it,” Biles says. “It’s really exciting but it doesn’t feel real because it’s going to be a movie about me.”

Simone’s birth parents weren’t really present during the gymnast’s childhood.

Her father, Kelvin Clemons, left the family when Simone was very young and was not present at all in her upbringing.

Simone’s mother, Shannon Biles, also struggled in the upbringing of her children and reportedly suffered from numerous alcohol and drug addictions which meant that her children were very often in and out of foster care.
